Our Story

30 years ago, the Niles family started their own business. Encouraged and advised by their sole sister, Marlene, the four brothers started mowing lawns to earn at least enough money to support the family. Using money that they had borrowed from the bank, the family did all of the work themselves working from morning until night and paying themselves initially, a mere monthly salary of BDS$100 (US$50) each for their efforts. But they worked hard and reinvested profits into the company thus making their first business endeavour profitable enough to attract a buyer offering a good price.

The family then went into construction and Marlene moved to New York, eventually becoming a Financial Controller at the well known Fairway Supermarkets. However, she missed her home and family in Barbados, and was just waiting for the perfect excuse to move back. In April of 2010, the brothers heard that the Oceans 11 hotel in The St. Lawrence Gap was for sale and they jumped on the opportunity. Using the strengths that each of the brothers brought to the table, they worked together to completely renovate the property into a contemporary hotel. Their plan was to offer modern, upscale accommodations, a friendly social environment, great food and entertainment, and the perfect location, all at an extremely affordable price. Marlene saw this as her chance to return home and do something she would enjoy – working alongside her family to create an excellent product. She left her job at Fairway and came back to Barbados to help with the project in February 2011.

While the guests of Ocean 15 rave about the great food & ambience as well as the large comfortable rooms (which mirror affluent Barbadian lifestyle homes), what also attracts people and keeps them coming back is the Niles family. You will see them doing everything from running the bar to just sitting around and making their guests feel welcome.

Come... stay at Ocean 15 and become a part of the family.
